摘要: Abstract Operating a Mail Interchange Service for large and widely dispersed user community involves considerable maintenance overhead. The routine tasks include updating of routing tables, checking network connections, processing ‘undeliverable’ mail, log files, analysing statistics, responding to queries arranging charging accounting. Whilst gateways provide mail system connectivity, they suffer from lack transparency do not full functionally between systems. This gives rise specific problems such as how should quote his address when this depends on the correspondent; name clashes can occur disjoint networks become connected; message loops be caused by information lost in gateways. In longer term, strategy both reduce overhead improve service users is adoption International Standards Message Handling (currently CCITT X.400 Recommendations).
