摘要: The world's governments have identified reducing the rate of biodiversity loss as a global priority. However, we lack robust measures progress toward this target. Developing indicators that are generally representative trends in has presented scientific community with significant challenge. Here discuss development and implementation IUCN Red List Index new sampled approach, permitting assessment conservation status large, speciose taxonomic groups. This approach is based on extinction risk through time. challenges developing addressed, including determining species groups to be included index, identifying minimum adequate samples size, aggregating weighting index. Implementing will greatly increase understanding by 2010, enabling first number key
