摘要: Plastic particles, in concentrations averaging 3500 pieces and 290 grams per square kilometer, are widespread the western Sargasso Sea. Pieces brittle, apparently due to weathering of plasticizers, many a pellet shape about 0.25 0.5 centimeters diameter. The particles surfaces for attachment diatoms hydroids. Increasing production plastics, combined with present waste-disposal practices, will undoubtedly lead increases concentration these particles. Plastics could be source some polychlorinated biphenyls recently observed oceanic organisms.
