摘要: The present study investigates the intersection of working memory and emotion recognition in young adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) neurotypical controls. executive functioning theory grounds key impairments within cognitive realm, whereas social-cognitive theories view social as primary. Executive ASD has been criticized because is too broad composed separable, component skills. In current study, focus narrowed to one those components, memory. It suggested that may play a role effective interactions. Emotion an important aspect reciprocity, which impaired ASD. this hypothesis by combining into single task, n-back, model interaction comparing performance between A validated set facial expression stimuli (NimStim) was modified remove all extraneous detail, type tightly controlled across 1-, 2-, 3-back conditions. Results include significantly lower accuracy each load conditions group compared control group, well baseline, maintenance task. group’s reaction time increased increased, did not vary n-back level. pattern results suggests limit for emotional expressions 2-back, due near chance level both groups 3-back, definitive problems short term high-functioning individuals ASD, contrast previous findings perfect INDEX WORDS: Autism, recognition, Working memory, Faces THE INTERSECTION OF WORKING MEMORY AND EMOTION RECOGNITION IN AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
