摘要: BACKGROUND Dendritic cells (DCs) are antigen-presenting with a unique ability to cross prime T and generate strong antitumor responses. This study evaluates the presence prognostic significance of DCs as well functional cells, which accumulate in microenvironment patients oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). METHODS Immunohistochemistry for S-100 positive or p55 T-cell receptor (TcR)-associated ζ-chain expression tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) was performed 132 paraffin embedded specimens from primary OSCC. The median clinical follow-up 50 months. numbers intratumoral TILs expressing ζ chain were determined microscopically compared pathohistologic parameters, including disease stage, stage tumor grade, lymph node involvement, free survival overall survival. RESULTS Immunostaining identified epithelial compartment tumors (S-100 positive) interdigitating reticular (p55 peritumoral areas. Based on staining, DC infiltrates low ( 20 per HPF) 37% OSCC specimens. number positively significantly correlated that normal expression. A infiltrating more predictive poor (hazard ratio, 7.95) than involvement 3.36) late 2.92). significant but weaker association infiltration observed. Low density absent each other predicted poorest greatest risk. CONCLUSIONS The is highly parameter Furthermore, absence paucity strongly linked abnormalities TcR-associated TILs. two biomarkers, S-100+ tumor, independently predict survival, time recurrence Cancer 2001;91:2136–47. © 2001 American Society.
