摘要: Abstract The ability of lake sediment cores to store long-term anthropogenic pollution establishes them as natural archives. In this study, we focus on the influence copper shale mining and smelting in Mansfeld area Germany, using depth profiles two from Lake Suser See. provide a detailed chronological deposition history polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) heavy metals studied area. Theisen sludge, fine-grained residue smelting, reaches via deflation by wind or through riverine input; it is assumed be main source pollution. To achieve comparability absolute contaminant concentrations, calculated influx contaminants based sedimentation rate. Compared background PAHs are significantly more enriched than metals. They therefore sensitive selective for apportionment. We suggest diagnostic ratios distinguish between sludge its leachate: ratio fluoranthene pyrene ~ 2 PAH with logKOW 5.7 converging an even lower value 2.3 (the characteristic sludge) identify particulate input environments.
