摘要: Objectives. This study evaluated the magnitude, patterns and clinical correlates of atherosclerosis in angiographically “normal” reference segments patients undergoing transcatheter therapy for symptomatic coronary artery disease. Background. Pathologic studies indicate that extent is underestimated by visual analysis normal segments. Intravascular ultrasound allows detailed, high quality cross-sectional imaging arteries vivo. Methods. was used to 884 native disease. The segment most visually intravascular cross section within 10 mm proximal target lesion but distal any major side branch. Results are presented as mean value ± 1 SD. Results. Only 60 (6.8%) were ultrasound. Reference percent narrowing measured 51 13% correlated poorly with (r = 0.166, p < 0.0001). contained less calcific dense fibrotic plaque proportionately more soft elements. Independent predictors male gender, patient age, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia presence multivessel calcification age serum creatinine levels. 723 similar studied diagnostic purposes; however, arc calcium greater treated (43 81 vs. 25 57, 0.015). disease not an independent predictor subsequent angiographic restenosis or events 12 months follow-up. Conclusions. Atherosclerosis ubiquitous parallels severity associated many conventional risk factors Because its sensitivity detecting segments, should enhance results therapies control progression.
