摘要: Raised low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) plasma concentration is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Despite international recommendations on hypercholesterolemia management the percentage of individuals with LDLc above goals according to their global remains high, and additional therapeutic strategies should be evaluated. Consumption functional foods enriched phytosterols (PSRs) phytostanols (PSNs) reduces concentrations by 10% as average. Although recommended part any lipid-lowering diet in first intervention step, PSRs/PSNs maintain LDL reduction capacity when administered drugs; therefore, they can also considered some cases an adjuvant drug therapy. In this document we summarise latest evidence regarding reducing effects PSR/PSN supplementation, alone or add-on hipolipemic drugs its clinical use.
