摘要: PURPOSE To test the hypothesis that T2 shortening observed on MR images of brain in patients with Parkinson and Huntington diseases is due to tissue iron deposition. METHODS Tissue ferritin assays were performed postmortem putamen globus pallidus samples from subjects disease. The correlated measurements. Normal included as controls. RESULTS There significant differences values, concentrations among samples. Compared normal controls, disease had approximately a threefold increase sixfold concentrations; however, they also longest values. putamens milder elevations above controls (33%) demonstrated slightly shorter similar trend their T2s, iron, levels, but there was larger overlap CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate are elevated brains both do not correlate shortening. Although can shorten T2, we conclude other factors must play role determining relaxation time or dominant this regard.
