Genotypic variation in durum wheat root systems at different stages of development in a Mediterranean environment

摘要: Glasshouse and field experiments were carried out to compare root growth of eight durum wheat genotypes at different stages development with moisture levels in soils. Genotypic differences found, particularly the stem elongation heading development, but ranking varied relation soil level fertility. Differences under optimal mainly due tillering disappeared by considering number weight per culm. Drought caused an increase root-to-total-plant ratio (18.5 vs 14.3% heading) also absolute weight. Karel, genotype largest mass drought greatest proportion roots upper layers (more than 50% 0–20 cm layer from onwards), showed lowest yield reduction severe stress. A large system a high density profile may be beneficial Mediterranean climates.
