摘要: Planar waveguides with an isotropic chiral core, called chirowaveguides, support the propagation of elliptically polarized modes, making them natural candidates for sensing. We investigate potential chirowaveguides as optical sensors responding to changes in circular birefringence a medium covering waveguide. Using flrst order approximations, we derive expressions sensitivities refractive index and birefringence. The sensitivity is proportional achiral eccentricity mode under consideration. Possible combinations materials design conditions chirowaveguide are discussed reference these results. motivation this study, besides its theoretical academic importance, comes from applications enantiomeric integrated devices.
