Physician race and ethnicity, professional satisfaction, and work-related stress: results from the Physician Worklife Study.

摘要: There are limited data about minority physicians' professional satisfaction and job stress. In this study, we describe by race ethnicity, satisfaction, stress among a national sample of physician. We analyzed from 2,217 respondents to the Physicians' Worklife Survey (PWS), career survey physicians drawn AMA Physician Masterfile. Scales measuring overall work-related were constructed Likert-response items. examined association between physician ethnicity each these scales. Respondents included 57 black, 134 Hispanic, 400 Asian or Pacific Islander, 1,626 white physicians. general, appeared serve more demanding patient base than did Hispanic reported significantly higher (p=0.05) (p=0.03) compared but no significant difference in Islander averaged lower (p=001) (p<0.01) Black not differ on any three measures. Significant racial ethnic variations found with respect several specific domains: autonomy, care issues, relations staff, community, pay, resources.
