Urban water consumption and its influencing factors in China: Evidence from 286 cities

摘要: Abstract Factors that affect water consumption should be identified to develop effective public policies. However, factors influencing domestic in cities China, particularly on a national scale, are unclear. In this study, urban and its 286 municipal China were analysed by using conditional inference trees the random forest method. Results showed (per capita per day) of 130 had changed significantly (decrease: 69; increase: 61) from 2000 2015. Of studied, 112 classified as low-water with below 70 L day. addition, day was found highly affected meteorological factors, socioeconomic status, supply conservation factors. The also varied across different cities. high-consumption cities, strongly influenced precipitation, investment, heater for showering or bathing household gross product capita. medium- low-consumption capacity including capita, education received Engel’s coefficient. Significant disparities these suggest policies regarding implemented China. investment continued ensure sustainable use reducing consumption. improved guarantee availability basic health hygiene requirements.
