摘要: In this study we report on the content and bioactivity of plant (phyto) estro- gens progestins in various foods, herbs, spices, before after human consumption. Over 150 herbs traditionally used by herbalists for treating a variety health problems were extracted tested their relative capacity to compete with estradiol progesterone binding intracellular receptors (PR) (ER) intact breast cancer cells. The six highest ER-binding that are commonly consumed soy, licorice, red clover, thyme, tumeric, hops, verbena. PR-binding spices con- sumed oregano, verbena, clover damiana. Some found contain high phytoestrogens phytoprogestins further based ability regulate cell growth rate ER (+) (-) lines induce or inhibit synthesis alkaline phosphatase, an end product action, PR general, herbal extracts agonists, much like estradiol, whereas extracts, neutral antagonists. bioavailability phytoestro- vivo studied quantitating saliva following consumption soy milk, exogenous proges- terone, medroxyprogesterone acetate, wild mexican yam products containing di- osgenin. Soy milk caused dramatic increase components with- out concommitant rise estradiol. Consumption increased progestin activity saliva, but there marked differences bioactivity. sum- mary, have demonstrated many act as agonists antago- nists vivo. (P.S.E.B.M. 1998, Vol 2171
