Brothels as Sites of Third-Party Exploitation? Decriminalisation and Sex Workers’ Employment Rights

摘要: Decriminalisation is arguably essential to protecting the human rights of sex workers. Nonetheless, there are suggestions that decriminalisation has less influence on workers’ experiences working than many assume. This paper explores management practices in brothels context New Zealand, focusing employment status, managerial control and agency. We interviewed 14 brothel operators 17 brothel-based workers this study. The findings suggest remain challenges for treated them as employees rather independent contractors. Brothel retained over shift times pricing services, conditions were unclear. Most understood their rights, but when impinged it was often more expedient move place work make an official complaint.
