摘要: Background and objectives: the length of stay is main determinant cost hospitalization, must implemented strategies to reduce conventional hospital keeping quality levels. Short Stay Units (UEC) are born with aim reducing in a group patients pathologies. The this paper evaluate literature on evidence decreased stay, efficiency, readmisions emergency department, cost-effectiveness, mortality these units. Methods: We performed systematic review literature, using MeSH terms "Observation Unit", "Short-Stay Ward", "Monday Friday Clinic" , "Monaday Surgery "Short hospitalization "," Alternative Conventional Admissions "in MEDLINE database Cochrane Library from January 1, 1960 November 30, 2011. studies reviewed were selected according U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Protocol. Results: UEC allowed certain patients, period maintain showing no increases readmissions or mortality. Conclusions: can be an instrument health process
