摘要: Study design A radiographic examination of pinealectomized rats to observe the development scoliosis and halt condition by administration melatonin. Objectives To discover whether pinealectomy has same effect in mammals as shown chicken, determine bipedal is important for scoliosis. Summary background data Pinealectomizing chickens shortly after hatching consistently resulted closely resembling human idiopathic It not been determined this phenomenon restricted solely chickens, or if experimental model applicable other animals, especially those more related humans. Methods sham operation five served control study. Pinealectomy was performed 10 quadrupedal rats, 20 with implantation melatonin pellet rats. Spinal radiographs were used measure degree at 3 months surgery. Results Scoliosis developed only none group 1 treatment. Conclusions Melatonin deficiency secondary alone does produce maintained. The condition, such that humans, plays an role findings suggest a critical influence postural mechanism
