摘要: The general theory of magneto‐optical effects is reviewed and it shown that one can describe these phenomena in terms a macroscopic dielectric tensor by setting μ=1. This true even when the microscopic origins constant are magnetic‐dipole transitions. For case electric‐dipole transitions, dispersive (i.e., Faraday or Voigt effects) be interpreted an effective Hamiltonian which related to very simple manner. form this follows from symmetry considerations. From measurements effects, determines constants predict cross section for Raman scattering light spin excitations.
