Rising to the challenge: Epilepsy specialist nurses as leaders of service improvements and change (SENsE study)

摘要: Abstract Purpose To report the leadership role and change activities of epilepsy specialist nurses (ESNs) in Ireland; findings from SENsE study. Method A mixed methods study design was used, involving 12 working five units Ireland, 24multidisciplinary team members with them, 35 people their family members. Data were collected using individual focus group interviews, observation documentary analysis. Results Five key areas which ESNs demonstrated leading on agenda identified. These included: Initiating new clinical practice developments; Building capability within multidisciplinary team; Developing education programmes resources for epilepsy, public; Exerting influence through membership committees lobbying; Advancing ESN role. Conclusion Though nurse first established UK 1988, much literature that discusses or describes is founded anecdotal evidence, focusses expertise. Findings this provide empirical evidence involved as players changes services, others, continuous advancement care.
