摘要: The objective of the study was to determine relationship between phenols and graft incompatibility in Uapaca kirkiana. Phenol quantification identification were carried out using Folin-Ciocalteau reagent procedure, fluorescence microscopy reverse phase high performance liquid chromatograph (RP-HPLC) above, below at union. Results showed no vascular cambium continuity above scion/stock unions. Significant differences total soluble cell wall bound obtained. Fluorescence microscope indicated presence flavonoids other polymers RP-HPLC identified ferulic acid as a major phenol component found U. kirkiana plant cells responsible for wood discolouration. High concentrations obtained less compatible combinations than combinations. peaks r-coumaric It is concluded that phenols, especially acids caused poor callus formation union, hence implicated incompatibility.
