摘要: We performed electrophysiological and serological testing within 15 days of symptom onset on 369 patients with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) enrolled in a trial comparing plasma exchange, intravenous immunoglobulin, both treatments. Patients were classified into five groups by motor nerve conduction criteria; 69% demyelinating, 3% axonal, inexcitable, 2% normal, 23% equivocal. Six 10 (60%) axonal neurophysiology had preceding diarrheal illness compared 71 359 (20%) other groups. Antiganglioside GM1 antibodies present higher proportion physiology or inexcitable nerves than patients. The number dead unable to walk unaided at 48 weeks was greater the group initially (6 12, 50%) rest (52 357, 15%), but not significantly different between (1 10, 10%) demyelinating (44 254, 17%) Sensory action potentials clinical sensory examination normal 53 342 (16%) patients, these "pure GBS" more likely GBS have IgG antiganglioside diarrhea similar outcome. potentials. outcomes response three treatments did differ any subgroup (including pure diarrhea) neurophysiological category.
