摘要: Abstract An acceleration in the progression of Wallerian degeneration was demonstrated isolated segments rat peripheral nerve following incubation under energy-deprivational conditions. The additions of1m M cyanide, azide or dinitrophenol to Ringer's incubational solutions brought about granular disintegrative axoplasmic changes, varicosity formation and linear fragmentation myelinated fibers within 2–4 h at 37°C. Incubations without glucose with addition iodoacetate led identical Wallerian-like degenerative changes during 8–12 interval. In contrast, remained well-preserved 16 glucose-enriched solutions. progressions conditions were calcium-dependent as evidenced by their failure occur calcium-free media. Accordingly, it is believed that an influx calcium ions into axoplasm a critical event bringing accelerated well natural degradative fibers. It would follow maintenance axolemmal integrity, especially calcium-excluding mechanism(s), active process which utilizes energy vulnerable
