摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter describes oscillatory behavior of magnetic susceptibility and electronic conductivity. The discusses high-field quantization effects, placing emphasis on transport effects. It concerns the free electron gas. presents information derived from conductivity data, major attention being given to properties bismuth. An understanding requires knowledge density states gas when field is present, treatment requires, scattering mechanisms their dependence upon field. observation that there are oscillations in magnetoresistance bismuth crystals led discovery diamagnetic known as “de Haas-van Alphen effect.” were particularly perplexing at time because they violated principle electrons should not exhibit diamagnetism, predicted by classical theory.
