摘要: Purpose To investigate whether cocaine use is associated with early retinal vascular abnormalities. Design Population-based cross-sectional study. Methods settings : Inner-city neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland. study population Sixty-eight participants were recruited from an ongoing observational study, investigating cardiovascular complications of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and African Americans aged between 25 54 years. Those hypertension known cardiovascular/cerebrovascular diseases excluded. observation procedures Ophthalmoscopic examinations fundus photography the retinas these subjects performed after pupillary dilation. The largest angle arterial bifurcation (LAAB), central artery equivalent (CRAE), vein (CRVE) measured by single-masked image examiners. main outcome measures LAAB, CRAE, CRVE. Results Among 68 subjects, 52 (76.5%) chronic users 16 (23.5%) non–cocaine users. Univariate multivariate analyses indicated that LAAB was age duration more than 10 also inversely very low-density lipoproteins levels. Multivariate analysis a positive association CRVE use. CRAE intravenous injection. We confirmed age. HIV not found to be any parameters. Conclusions Cocaine increased branching venular caliber. changes provided first evidence has effect on system.
