摘要: After consuming comparable amounts of ethanol, women have higher blood ethanol concentrations than men, even with allowance for differences in size, and are more susceptible to alcoholic liver disease. Recently, we documented significant "first-pass metabolism" due its oxidation by gastric tissue. We report a study the possible contribution this metabolism sex-related difference alcohol 20 men 23 women. Six each group were alcoholics. The first-pass was determined on basis areas under curves after intravenous oral administration (0.3 g per kilogram body weight). Alcohol dehydrogenase activity also measured endoscopic biopsies. In nonalcoholic subjects, 59 percent, respectively, those there correlation (rs = 0.659) between mucosal activity. about half men; women, lower virtually abolished. conclude that increased bioavailability resulting from decreased may contribute enhanced vulnerability acute chronic complications alcoholism.
