Parents' perspective on weight management interventions for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

摘要: Abstract Background Adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have high rates of obesity. However, little research has been conducted demonstrating effective strategies barriers for weight loss or management in adolescents IDD. Furthermore, parents play a large role terms children IDD, their views should be taken into consideration when designing diet PA intervention management. Objective The aims this study are to better understand the parents' perspectives on helping IDD successful program identify how information guide future approaches. Methods Semi-structured interviews were 18 whose had just finished intervention. Interviews transcribed verbatim, thematic analysis was performed. Results Parents reported positive attitude toward program, liked convenience felt that they learned beneficial encourage healthy habits home. found time major barrier supporting child willing change own dietary behaviors help successfully follow intervention; however, no parent changing levels. Conclusion Future studies aim reduce parental commitment increase importance PA.
