Although rare, SCD devastating to families communities, underpinning our society's desire avoid any circumstances predisposing loss of human life during exertion. The Canadian Cardiovascular Society Position Statement on cardiovascular screening athletes provides evidence-based recommendations for sporting organizations institutions with focus role routine electrocardiogram (ECG) preventing SCD. We recommend that care within health model comprise sequential (tiered) approach identification risk, emphasizing limitations screening, importance shared decision-making when conditions are diagnosed, creation policies procedures management emergencies sport settings. Thus, we against (first-line or blanket mass performance ECG) 12-lead ECG initial competitive athletes. Organization/athlete-centred program recommended. Such should occur context consistent, systematic provides: assessment, appropriate investigations, interpretation, management, counselling, follow-up. presented tiered framework allows some choice as creation.
