摘要: Forest fires are an integral part of the ecology Mediterranean Basin; however, fire incidence has increased dramatically during past decades and is expected to become more prevalent in future due climate change. Fuel modification by prescribed burning reduces spread intensity potential subsequent wildfires. We used most recently published data calculate average annual wildfire CO2 emissions France, Greece, Italy, Portugal Spain following IPCC guidelines. The effect on was calculated for four scenarios effectiveness based from Portugal. Results show that could have a considerable carbon balance land use, land-use change forestry (LULUCF) sector countries. However, uncertainty emission estimates remains large, accurate needed, especially regarding fuel load consumption different vegetation types layers total area protected per unit treated burning, i.e. leverage burning.
