摘要: Abstract Objective To evaluate the occurrence of severe maternal complications associated with abortion in Brazil. Methods In a cross-sectional multicenter study, prospective surveillance was done for cases potentially life-threatening conditions (PLTC), near miss (MNM), and death (MD) among 9555 women obstetric between June 2009 May 2010. Abortion evaluated as cause, sociodemographic characteristics, safety where performed, medical procedures used were also assessed. Prevalence ratios adjusted cluster effect design calculated 95% confidence intervals. Multiple logistic regression analysis performed to identify factors independently greater severity. Results For 237 (2.5%), resulted including PLTC (81.9%), MNM (15.2%), MD (3%). When unsafe, infectious causes more common PLTC, whereas management criteria important MD. multivariate analysis, presence previous (sickle cell disease, low weight, neoplasm), being transferred or referred, uterine scar, delays Conclusion responsible only small percentage pregnancy; however, risk abortion-related progressing unfavorably higher.
