摘要: Electric fencing is increasingly used as a tool for elephant (Loxodonta africana) conservation in human-dominated landscapes and there are few empirical studies to demonstrate that electrified barriers effective deterring elephants from raiding crops. The factors determining the effectiveness of electric fences not fully understood. We assessed performance Namelok Kimana reducing human–elephant conflict by comparing frequency crop-raiding perceptions farmers on effect within fenced adjacent unfenced farmlands. also examined intact fence wires, presence current amount voltage breakage elephants. reduced other forms conflicts. was broken whereas several times probably because it borders Sanctuary which provided cover where could retreat after crop-raiding. mere did minimize Elephants entered areas more frequently when wires were than intact. Our results suggest that, location relation landscape factors, maintenance non-electrified proximity high concentration significant determinants mitigating
