Limitations of Size-Exclusion Chromatography in Analyzing Petroleum Asphaltenes: A Proof by Atomic Force Microscopy

摘要: The analysis of a Maya asphaltene using size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), tetrahydrofuran (THF), toluene as the eluent (separately used) showed radically different chromatograms. SEC fossil fuel hydrocarbons, e.g., asphaltenes, NMP has shown two-peak structure, which been source debate, whether peak excluded from column porosity (appearing at shorter retention times) contained asphaltenic aggregates or very large molecular masses thousands mass units. asphaltenes THF retained peaks longer times.
