摘要: Sharpness and symmetry of orientation tuning were quantitatively investigated compared in ninety-seven cells from areas 17 18 the lightly-anaesthetised feline visual cortex. Halfwidths at half-height ranged between 5 degrees 73 for long stimuli, with an extreme exception 111 (excluding untuned cells). There was a tendency area to be more broadly tuned than those 17, due largely relatively sharp simple cells. Confirming previous work, sharply complex 17. In 18, there no clear distinction sharpness type 1 (equated cells), 2 or hypercomplex Approximately 60% both asymmetrically orientation: ratios half-widths either side optimal 1.0-3.0, exceptionally 5.8. Asymmetry marked except that as group symmetrically orientation. Occasional different preferred orientations opposite directions motion, each peak bimodal response single direction, half receptive field also observed. The latter are described following paper.
