摘要: Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common cause of clinical mastitis in dairy cattle. Wood products are considered to be the main source on farms. Environmental hygiene and use inorganic bedding materials such as sand recommended control mastitis. However, still occurs well-managed farms that material. In 5-mo study New York State herd performed during summer 2005, all 9 samples unused tested negative for Klebsiella, whereas 14 18 used contained at median level 10(4.6) cfu/g. We hypothesized fecal shedding by cows contributes presence environment. Using cheap simple method based ampicillin-containing MacConkey agar screening, biochemical tests confirmation species identity, 595 from healthy cattle were screened Klebsiella. longitudinal 100 followed over 5 mo, more than 80% positive K. pneumoniae. The average prevalence pneumoniae-positive was also above cross-sectional 10 herds across Massachusetts. Fecal large proportion may explain why material or other free upon introduction into barn.
