摘要: Abstract Red cell kinetics and albumin metabolism were studied in calves infected with either 100 or 200 Schistosoma bovis cercariae per kg body weight, by the use of 59 Fe-labelled transferrin, 51 Cr-labelled erythrocytes 125 I-labelled albumin; a third group worm-free animals acted as controls. The anaemia which developed was shown to be due basically an accelerated rate red loss from circulation, became evident around seventh week infection, increased severity during following two months, subsequently subsided. In view its close similarity pattern faecal egg excretion, it concluded that haemorrhage into intestine caused exit eggs principal aetiological factor: haemolysis excluded absence both splenomegaly hyperferraemia. Erythropoiesis also animals, but could not keep pace breakdown concurrently subjected. Haemodilution involved, significant extent. hypoalbuminaemia associated infection catabolism, plasma volume expansion, accompanied marked depletion all pools, particularly extravascular pool. catabolism closely followed loss, suggesting passage whole blood basic cause hypoalbuminaemia. losses hypercatabolism more severe heavily group, although subsided counts fell, they remained even 1 year after infection. This may partly explain failure regain weight lost earlier stages disease.
