摘要: Abstract Background. Family physicians (FPs) in Australia underutilize effective strategies to help patients stop smoking. We conducted a cluster randomization trial evaluate multifaceted, practice-based intervention involving audit, feedback, and academic detailing improve FP smoking cessation advice. Methods. Sixty FPs 39 practices participated. FPs' provision of advice was measured by patient recall, medical record self-report. Logistic regression analysis using generalized estimating equations performed assess improvements practice, after adjustment for clustering practice. Results. Improvements between baseline posttest recall about nicotine replacement patches gum were significantly greater the than control group ( P = 0.0056 0.0002, respectively). While there substantial increases assessment status use “quit dates,” behavioral advice, written materials group, these changes not those group. Notation patients' records remained suboptimal both groups. Conclusions. This multifaceted successful only promoting therapy. other appeared increase, larger is needed further evaluation.
