Portacaval Diversion for Severe Hypercholesterolemia

摘要: • An end-to-side portacaval shunt was performed in a patient with severe coronary arteriosclerosis and type Ila hypercholesterolemia. By one year postoperatively there decrease of serum cholesterol concentration more than 40%. No adverse side effects were noted. Intravenous oral glucose tolerance tests within normal range preoperatively postoperatively. However, preoperatively, during the test, insulin levels exceeded range. In addition, glucagon revealed less tendency to suppression preoperative tests. Psychological testing no abnormalities, ammonia only slightly elevated. ( Arch Surg 112:634-636, 1977)
