Health-related interventions among night shift workers: a critical review of the literature

摘要: Objectives Associations between shift work and chronic disease have been observed, but relatively little is known about how to mitigate these adverse health effects. This critical review aimed (i) synthesize interventions that implemented among workers reduce the effects of (ii) provide an overall evaluation study quality. Methods MeSH terms keywords were created used conduct a rigorous search MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE for studies published on or before 13 August 2012. Study quality was assessed using checklist adapted from Downs & Black. Results Of 5053 articles retrieved, 44 met inclusion exclusion criteria. Over 2354 male female rotating permanent night included, mostly manufacturing, healthcare, public safety industries. Studies grouped into four intervention types: schedule; controlled light exposure; (iii) behavioral; and, (iv) pharmacological. Results generally support benefits fast-forward shifts; simultaneous use timed bright light-blocking glasses; physical activity, healthy diet, promotion. Mixed results observed hypnotics. varied numerous deficiencies identified. Conclusions Except hypnotics, several types reviewed had positive outcomes. There substantial heterogeneity with respect sample, interventions, need further high-quality, workplace-based prevention research conducted workers.
