摘要: The pollination of Passiflora coccinea by the hummingbird Phaethornis superciliosus was studied in Central Amazon, Brazil. We hypothesized that a greater nectar secretion rate (NSR) increases success single flowers through Ph. visiting behavior. For control flowers, NSR an increasing function flower base diameter (FBD). total number probes per FBD. Additionally, deposition pollen on stigmas increased with cumulative probes. Our results show larger P. secrete at higher rates, are probed more times during each visit and successful pollination. This seems to be first non-manipulative study describing such effect nature.
