Berberine as a promising anti-diabetic nephropathy drug: An analysis of its effects and mechanisms

摘要: Diabetic nephropathy is a progressive kidney disorder and pathologically characterized by thickened glomerular tubular basement membranes, accumulation of the extracellular matrix increased mesangial hypertrophy. Growing evidence has suggested that diabetic induced multiple factors, such as dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, hemodynamic abnormalities oxidative stress, based on genetic susceptibility. Berberine (BBR; [C20H18NO4](+)), an isoquinoline alkaloid, major active constituent Rhizoma coptidis Cortex phellodendri. Recent studies have demonstrated berberine various pharmacological activities, including lowering blood glucose, regulating lipids reducing inflammation in addition to its antioxidant activity. These findings suggest potential applications therapeutic drug for nephropathy, significant research value. However, possible mechanisms not been fully established. The purpose this paper investigate renoprotective highlight importance reagent treatment.
