摘要: Background Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a chronic debilitating disease and premalignant condition of the oral cavity. It well known for its impervious nature to medical therapy. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids have been reported anti-inflammatory properties. However, role in OSF still not known. This preliminary study assessed efficacy systemic omega 3 this disease. Methods A randomized single-blinded controlled trial was designed, total 10 clinically confirmed adult patients with were included study. Group A given biweekly intralesional injections dexamethasone 1.5 ml hyaluronidase 1500 IU mixed lignocaine 6 weeks placebo months. B also similar but 1 gm three times daily continuously Patients followed every month months then after months. Results Significant improvement noted among all clinical parameters (interincisal distance, tongue protrusion, cheek flexibility, visual analogue scale) both groups. Intergroup comparison showed significant reduction burning sensation group B; that is, P value 0.005, while rest features statistically significant. Conclusion Omega can be used as an adjunctive treatment option reduce subjective symptoms. More studies should conducted larger sample size effect OSF.
