摘要: • The value of the autopsy in practice clinical medicine continues to be debated. While yield adults is well documented, similar studies infants and children are lacking. To understand how frequently neonatal provides useful information, we studied all deaths a level Ill intensive care unit over three-year period. Clinically active problems at time death were tabulated compared with final diagnoses obtained from report. During study period, there 113 autopsies performed 71 (63%) cases. Significant findings noted 39% patients. These included congenital anomalies (16 patients), infections (nine unsuspected iatrogenic complications (five others (11 patients). In 16% cases, provided definitive explanation for cause by substantiating an unproved or diagnosis. additional 18.3% influenced genetic counseling important monitoring patient care. gross examination was most component autopsy, providing 63% significant findings. This high rate return supports continued autopsy. ( AJDC 1986;140:1260-1262)
