The social bases of nuclear energy policies in Europe: Ideology, proximity, belief updating and attitudes to risk

摘要: This article analyses the social bases underpinning widely different trajectories of nuclear energy policies across Western European countries. Employing a set surveys carried out in last thirty years, it examines conditional effects ideology and geographical proximity to power plant on attitudes toward energy, as well long- short-term dynamics belief updating after occurrence major accidents. Results highlight how can strengthen, weaken or have no effect ideological component these attitudes. Moreover, publics most countries with experience display traits Bayesian updating, especially vicinity plant. The also shows fairly exceptional French public opinion.
