摘要: Studies of reactions to nuclear facilities have found consistent male/female differences, but the underlying reasons never been well-clarified. The most common expectations involve traditional roles-with men focusing more on economic concerns and with women (especially mothers) being concerned about family safety/health. Still, changing gender roles, are becoming providers as well caregivers; past studies not actually examined interaction employment effects. This study examines a rural county where issues risk interest were both salient-a waste site had proposed an existing power plant was major employer. Overall, concern levels expressed by employed mothers did differ significantly from those in rest sample, further analyses revealed sharp contrast: In half that home plant, could be expected salient, over 90 percent low concern; other county, closer potential risks site, almost high concern. No such differences for sociodemographic groups. may or unique; what findings show is interplay geography, roles should receive attention contexts, well.
