摘要: Progestin-only contraceptive injectables and implants are highly effective, longer-acting methods that can be used by most women in circumstances. Globally, 6% of using modern contraception use 1% implants. Injectables the predominant method sub-Saharan Africa, account for 43% used. A lower-dose, subcutaneous formulation widely injectable, depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate, has been developed. Implants have highest effectiveness any method. Commodity cost, which historically limited implant availability low-resource countries, was markedly lowered between 2012 2013. Changes menstrual bleeding patterns extremely common with both methods, a main cause discontinuation. Advice from normative bodies differs on progestin-only breastfeeding 0–6 weeks postpartum. Whether these associated HIV acquisition is controversial issue, important implications disproportionate burden human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) maternal mortality.
