Evaluation of oxidant and antioxidant status in infants with hyperbilirubinemia and kernicterus.

摘要: OBJECTIVE The objective of the present study was to determine oxidant and antioxidant status in infants with hyperbilirubinemia and/or kernicterus find whether there is a relationship between bilirubin level oxidant/antioxidant status. PATIENTS includes 69 full-term newborns (neonates needing phototherapy [Group 1, n = 36] neonates 2, 33]) 25 age-matched healthy newborn. RESULTS Plasma total capacity (TAC) serum (TOS) were significantly higher Groups 1 2 than control group. There significant difference Group cases for malondialdehyde (MDA; p < 0.001). Total free sulfhydryl group (TTHI) values elevated compared cases. Correlation analysis showed that correlation (TB) TAC, TOS, MDA oxidative stress index may be expressed by quadratic curve. After phototherapy, statistically increase nitrite observed. CONCLUSION We demonstrated TB antioxidants could
