摘要: In 1891, William B. Coley injected streptococcal organisms into a patient with inoperable cancer. He thought that the infection he produced would have side effect of shrinking malignant tumor. was successful, and this one first examples immunotherapy. Over next forty years, as head Bone Tumor Service at Memorial Hospital in New York, more than 1000 cancer patients bacteria or bacterial products. These products became known Coley's Toxins. other doctors who used them reported excellent results, especially bone soft-tissue sarcomas. Despite his good Toxins came under great deal criticism because many did not believe results. This criticism, along development radiation therapy chemotherapy, caused to gradually disappear from use. However, modern science immunology has shown principles were correct some cancers are sensitive an enhanced immune system.
