摘要: In this paper, we review the drivers for high levels of material use in society, investigating both historical and current trends. We present recent national global data by different categories accounting schemes, showing correlations between materials measures human well-being. also a development narrative to accompany these observed trends, focusing on strong role have played economic industrialization consumer economy. Finally, speculate how efficiency might alter pattern going forward whether it is possible de-couple well-being from use.This article part themed issue 'Material demand reduction'.
