摘要: Abstract In response to increases in human–wildlife conflicts urban and suburban environments, many states have established nuisance wildlife control operator (NWCO) programs. Criticism has been leveled at such programs for insufficient emphasis on nonlethal means, particularly the exclusion translocation of small medium-sized mammals. We determined den site selection lactating raccoons (Procyon lotor) after subsequent release from a human residence. Fifteen 20 females extracted residences returned another house least once. Of sites selected 2 months postrelease, 59% were man-made structures. Our data suggest that most female removed excluded dwellings will select if released site. contend this behavior is facilitated by homeowners who fail take initiative prevent entry into their homes.
