Why Do Immigrant Youths Who Never Enroll in U.S. Schools Matter? School Enrollment Among Mexicans and Non-Hispanic Whites

摘要: Using data from the 2000 Public Use Sample of U.S. census, this research examined how estimates school enrollment and school-work patterns among Mexican-origin adolescents are affected by including or excluding young immigrants who never enrolled in schools. The analysis demonstrates that a nontrivial share were born Mexico almost certainly schools; these youths most likely migrated to United States for work. Excluding analyses substantially reduces gaps between Mexicans whites native foreign-born Mexicans. never-enrolled immigrant also changes relationship duration residence idleness Mexican youths, revealing additional years increase likelihood being out not working compared working. Overall, inferences about level intraethnic differences depend on those have schools treated. Inferences interethnic affected, although they somewhat less sensitive issue.
