摘要: The most striking feature of the group satellite cells collectively termed “astrocytes” is fact that they seem to constitute a huge syncytium in brain, since these are connected by gap junctions. They take up about 40% brain volume, but, smaller than neurons, their cell number l0x larger. Other structural specializations endfeet around endothelial capillaries, and cytoplasmic processes surround synaptic clefts. These enable astrocytes interact with all major elements central nervous system, integrate within available information from different areas. Indeed, astrocyte function seems be twofold: First, support respond neuronal activity more efficient delivery supplies (such as lactate [lact]) effective removal system products potassium [K] transmitter substances) would interfere normal operation neurons; second detection use, subsequent modification transmission. This an involvement has do processing tissue homeostasis, although both course interrelated. chapter deals homeostatic functions focuses on functional role, interaction processing.
